Currently my newest daughter’s therapist is using the film One Family: An Ethiopian Adoption with her. My daughter had no chance to say goodbye to the distant relatives she lived with for a time, so Meskerem’s goodbye scene has, in some ways, become my daughter’s (I would guess this is true for other children as well). The film is the only thing that triggers my daughter’s memories of Ethiopia so it’s been quite helpful for her. Thank you for making such a fine film.
Have you considered making a follow-up? We would love to see how Meskerem is doing now and what advice she has for those girls and boys following behind her, still new to America.

It was a powerful documentary and important for families new to the adoption process to see the perspective from the birth family and adoptive family. We were especially touched by the time in Ethiopia and being able to witness what it is like for birth families to say good-bye. We also appreciated seeing the month to month follow ups of Meskram adjusting in her new family.
